Brook, Museum Bench

Exhibited in the lobby of the Brooklyn Museum (Spring 2017)

2016-semester project

A neutral bench designed for the Brooklyn Museum. Inspired by the folding and drooping characteristic of fabric, the seating plane curves where it meets the ends of the metal frame. The bench creates visual interest by the use of hard material to imitate the quality of a softer and flexible material. This illusion aims to make the hard surface of the bench more welcoming to its users.

Top made of kerfed plywood with mahogany veneer. Base made with welded square tube with clear coat finish.
